1.) HAAM Meeting, April 6th, at the Salt Bar, 7-8pm

Just wanted to get the word out early about this: There will be a
General HAAM Meeting & Family Reunion at the Salt Bar, April 6th,
2011, from 7-8pm. (Probably going later, though.) There’s an open
mic afterwards so be sure to bring your instruments and your smiles!
It’s been awhile, HAAMsters, but it’s time to get back into the swing
of things!

2.) New Open Mic!

Open Mic Night Every Tuesday starting March 15th

Selia sez:
I will do the first set and then turn the mic over to those who sign up.
Sign up sheet goes out at 7 pm. Open mic begins at 7:45 pm.
Each artist performs 3 songs (15 minute recommended time frame).
Even if you don’t perform, please come out and support your local
artists and local bistro.

I’m so excited to be part of such a lovely, quirky little place.

3.) Post to the HAAM Facebook site as our Community Bulletin Board

Have an open mic to announce, gigging opportunity, gear for sale, etc,
to report? HAAM now has the capability for all to post this sort of
information to the HAAM Facebook site. Feel free to use it anytime
and visit it often to find out the latest about what’s going on in the
Houston Acoustic music scene. Even if you’re a member of another
musical organization in Houston, feel free to post anything and
everything that might interest and/or help our fellow musicians. It’s
all about family and our community, folks, so chip in, inform and be
informed. Social Networking at it’s finest….use it! =)

Also, tell your HAAM friends about our Facebook HAAM site and get ‘em
to sign on, even if you think they might already know about it. We’re
trying to build back a membership list and Facebook is a nice & easy
way to go about doing that.

Hi guys! Hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend, grillin’, chillin’, or however you spent it!

Last week’s meeting at JP Hops House was newsy and fun. Thanks to Jim & Pam for hosting us there and Kat Rose for leading the meeting and song circle as well!

If you didn’t make it to this meeting, here are a few things you may be interested in:

Patti Sullivan reported that we received 48 submissions for the new HAAM Compilation CD. Thanks to Carolyn Wallace for collecting all the submissions from the post office box. The next step in the process is the selection phase. Bill Aspinwall explained there are nine judges. Pete Simple will upload each selection to a page on the website for the judge’s review. This will be a blind review. After June 5, we will need to plan a party for the selection process, post production and distribution. Chris Collins and Saylor White have volunteered to produce the master, Selia Qynn will design the art, and Pete Lippencott will produce the CD’s at cost. This will be an 80-minute CD and has an August target date for release.

Chris Collins, our HAAM Radio Show DJ, lead us all in thanking Joanne Sprott and Tom Tranchilla for the really outstanding job they have done in booking the radio show. Mark Zeus will be the new contact for live guest performers. The show has been playing more regional music, so HAAM members please submit your radio-ready CD’s for airplay, and if you want to appear on the show. The show only reached 30% of its goal during the last fund drive, so please go to www.kpft.org and pledge your support for this show by making an online donation. It’s tax deductible. This is a vital part of HAAM. Let’s keep our local talented musicians on the air for all listeners!

Our friend and co-founder April Kelly is moving into new digs on the north shore of Lake Austin, but is not giving up her HAAM membership or participation! We thank her for her dedication and uplifting work! Saylor and I are taking up the role as newsletter writers. You can contact me at folkmom1’@’comcast.net or Saylor at saylorwhite’@’comcast.net. Remove the apostrophes (‘ symbols) on either side of the @ symbol before you send an email.

Several nominees for the HAAMY awards were presented to the HAAM Wheel (an advisory board elected by a quorum of members) and two have been selected. The awards will be presented at the next meeting!

The HAAM Membership Directory was last updated before the new website design, so I will be undertaking to update the directory. Although we send out over 400 emails, the membership directory contains half that number. Even though Saylor and I have been members since 2003, we were not in the directory! Look for an email from me soon. Encourage everyone you know to join HAAM. You perform with other musicians, let them know! You visit venues that host acoustic musicians, invite them to join too! Pete has already updated the website to make it even easier!

We had several new members and participants at JP’s and thank them so much for coming out! In keeping with choosing a variety of venues for future meetings, we are planning our next meeting at the Main St. Café in Tomball in September.

If you went to the Kerrville Folk Festival or have any pictures, HAAM news, or music stories to share, please post them to the Forum. We’d love to see ‘em! And don’t forget to post your gigs to the website so we can come out and see you!

We need all to continue to spread the word about this Saturday’s annual
Songfest. Your attendance is highly encouraged as well. Stop by and join in
on this party. Meet new friends, see old ones and enjoy over 30 of your
fellow haamsters as they present a full 8 hours of live Houston acoustic
music. 80% of proceeds go to an important cause- the Musicians Benevolent
Society of Houston. 20% goes for HAAM costs and general fund. Here are the

Hello H.A.A.M. members,

We are sending this URGENT REQUEST FOR ACTION to all H.A.A.M. members who seriously value the H.A.A.M. radio show and its presence on the KPFT airwaves.

In order to keep our H.A.A.M. show in its current form, we need for our own H.A.A.M. membership, who all benefit from the show, to send in pledges of support during this current fund drive. KPFT’s H.A.A.M. fund drive began this past Monday and will proceed for the next two Mondays. The pledge you fulfill is tax deductible and can be made with cash, check or credit card. We need to go beyond the (reduced) goal of only $700.00 per show. To make a decent showing, our actual requirement is greater than $1,200 for each fund drive show. With our H.A.A.M. membership upward of 400, this is do-able. As, Ken Gaines says,
