After a two-month process, the judging crew finished the difficult task of selecting songs for the 2008 HAAM compilation disc. Members of the crew included artists with cuts on the original HAAM compilation disc, as well as other accomplished musicians, recording artists and engineers. On the basis of the judges’ evaluations, twenty songwriters have been invited to include their songs on the 2008 compilation disc. These 20 songs will be officially part of the project when release forms have been signed and returned to HAAM by the songwriters. All songs are excellent representations of the quality of HAAM musicians and all exemplify the best of Houston music, in the same historic tradition as the first HAAM compilation. The selection process was greatly streamlined and improved through the efforts of Pete Simple, our genius webmaster, and by the hard work of the judges. Special thanks to all the judges: Bill Aspinwall, Mark Beets, David Britton, Lawrence Clark, Lloyd Daniel, Jim Kam, Connie Mims and Selia Qynn.

The CD team has planned for the CD to be produced with a four sided color insert in a jewel case and Selia Qynn has designed a beautiful cover promoting “Genuine Texas Music by Genuine Texas Musicians”. Advance order forms for the CD will be available at the next HAAM meeting. We’re keeping the cost of the CD to a mere 10 bucks! Plus, Patti Sullivan has generously produced a new HAAM bumper sticker and made them available for free with each advance order or for a minimum $1.00 donation at our next meeting. Put them on your guitar or instrument case, car bumper, window, any place to announce your membership and promote HAAM! Any profits from CD sales will go to our HAAM Radio Show which airs on KPFT 90.1. The CD release party is scheduled for October 26 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at JP Hops House. Details will be forthcoming.
3.) New Newsletter Writers
Well, guys, this is the last newsletter that I’ll be writing for HAAM. Because I’m moving to the Austin area on the 24th of May, Saylor White and Sheryl Hutchins have volunteered to take over where I’m leaving off. Sheryl and Saylor (Shaylor) will be an amazing team, so you’re in great hands.
If you have items that you think would be of interest to a large proportion of HAAMsters, you’ll want to email those items to Sheryl at the following email address: Folkmom1’@’Comcast.net (Please remove the ‘ symbols from the address before you send anything to Sheryl.) She’ll see if they fit the newsletter mold or if they’re better suited to the Forum. She and Saylor will then be in touch with us at least once per month to let us know what’s going on within our little tribe.
BIG, BIG thanks to both of them AND to those other folks who volunteered for the job. We need more folks like you, for sure….
On a personal note, I have totally enjoyed writing the newsletter for HAAM. I’ll try to make it to as many meetings as I can and look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones when I do. I’m going to remain a member of the HAAMster Wheel and will be as proactive as I can from Lake Travis, so I hope to see you soon. (Wow, I’m getting my keyboard a bit soggy now.) Ta, Ciao and Aloha!
~~~~~~~~~~
4.) New Booking Agent for “The HAAM Radio Show”
For the last couple of years, Joanne Sprott and Tom Tranchilla have been booking performing HAAMsters into “The HAAM Radio Show.” However, both of them have gotten very busy and it’s time to pass the torch to someone new. Mark Zeus has generously offered to take over the job of booking and will do a bang up job of it, we know. Major thanks to all three for booking our show, past, present and future!!!
Spread the word! The HAAM Radio Show, KPFT, 90.1FM, Houston, TX. Every Monday from 3-5pm, Chris Collins and Tom Tranchilla take to the airwaves, spinning CDs and interviewing HAAM members on the air.  Next Lineup for the show:
May 5      Adam and Lena
May 12    Steve Reno
May 19    Jonathon Dewveall
May 26    Dan Ennis
The more folks who know about the show, the more folks they’ll tell. Then, they’ll tell two friends. And, so on. And, so on. And, so on. So, tell the world by mentioning that you get airplay on “The HAAM Radio Show” within each of your performance alerts. It’s good for you!  And, for two of your friends….and, so on….and, so on….
(NOTE: Joanne will still be booking the show for the next few weeks, so if you hear from her, please respond! Mark will take over shortly….)
~~~~~~~~~~
5.) How to get Booked on the Show
Occasionally, new HAAMster folks will ask “How Can I Get Booked on The HAAM Radio Show?” I’ve have a standard answer for them that I just cut and paste into the reply email message. I’m going to post that here now so that anyone who is unsure about it can get the facts and get more involved. Some of this may be useful to veteran HAAMsters, too, so read on….
Here’s the info:
~~~~~
“First:  If you haven’t already, become a member – Join HAAM.  Go to www.haam.us and sign on as a member and sign on to receive emails and news.  (These are done separately, so make sure to sign on for both.)  Once done, you’ll receive a “Welcome to HAAM!” email.  Save this email as it will have your username and password attached.
FYI:  You can change your username and password to whatever you wish once you receive this initial welcome email.  Look for more information on how to do so within that first email.  You’ll need this in order to post & sign on to the Forum and for other website stuff.
Now, on to the HAAM Radio Show….
HAAMsters MUST have either a CD to promote and/or a local gig to promote to be on the show and to be on the “Bios” page of the HAAM website.  (If you do not have either, go get a gig and/or record your tunes and then come back to put your bio on the site!  Only folks with bios up can perform on the show.  (Please see existing bios to get some good examples of bio formats and information, if you need to.)
Important: You MUST include your contact information within your bio so that our booker for the show can contact you to play!
Performer’s names are drawn from the Bios page to play their original music live on “The HAAM Radio Show,” on KPFT, every Monday, from 3:00-5:00.
About the show:  The interview portion begins at 4pm and ends at 4:30, but performers need to be there at 3:30 for sound check and setup.  The interviews usually include 3-4 live ORIGINAL songs being played and last about 30 minutes.  The rest of the show is devoted to spinning member’s CDs.
If you have a CD of your original music that is professionally recorded, thus “Radio Ready,” you will want to send it to Chris Collins, our main DJ on the show.  Send, with a note regarding: 1)  Why you’re sending it, and 2) Pointing out which two songs you think are best, to:  Chris Collins, 9362 Willowview Lane, Houston, TX, 77080.
If you would like to be a performing guest on the HAAM show and have the criteria needed to be on the Bios page, please get your bio up and then contact our booking agent, Mark Zeus, at MarkZeus@MarkZeus.com to let him know that you’re new to the group, have your bio page up and would like to be included in the drawings for an airplay slot.  (Make sure to state what local gigs you might have coming up or what product you’re promoting when you talk to him.)  He’ll throw your name into the hat and will let you know when your name is drawn about a month or so in advance of your possible time slot.
Then, come to the meetings and get to know your fellow musicians!  Additionally, when you get involved with a HAAM project that benefits all, you’ll REALLY start getting to know the folks in the group.  Good group – GREAT people.  =)
~~~~~~~~~~
6.) Check out the Forum – Ride to Kerrville, sit in with Kathy Mattea, help Freddie Everett, etc.
Just a reminder to you all to utilize the forum! Go check it out at www.haam.us and click on the word “Forum” in the left hand side toolbar. You might be able to find someone to carpool with to Kerrville for the KFF, see how to sit in with Kathy Mattea, Jon Vezner and Pat Pattison, find out more about Freddie Everett and how you can help or you might find other musicians who are looking to contact someone like you, perhaps. You’ll need your HAAMsite username and password to post, though. If you cannot locate your username and password, Sheryl Hutchins might be able to post your information to the forum for you, so ask her nicely at: Folkmom1’@’Comcast.net. (Remove the ‘ symbols before using Sheryl’s email address.) The more the forum is used, the more people will use it, so be sure to use this useful tool and post something helpful today.
~~~~~~~~~~
7.) GigPage Information
Looks like The Hanshaws have a monopoly on the HAAM GigPage! Way to post, guys! Let’s fill out the Gigpage with ALL HAAMster performance dates! Here’s the information for you HAAMsters again, in case you’ve forgotten….
Here’s how to post:
TC sez:
“To add your own gigs to the haam gigpage, go to :  http://www.gigpage.com
Username is:  _________
Password is:  _________
(Username and Password have been omitted from this blog for member privacy reasons.  The GigPage is for HAAM members only.  If you are a member of HAAM and need the username & password, please write to Sheryl Hutchins at Folkmom1′@’Comcast.net Please remove the ‘ symbols from either side of the @ symbol when you use Sheryl’s email address.  She will provide you with the username and password.)
Artists should add their own gigs as of the 1st of each month.  TC Smythe will send the list to the Chronicle, the Houston Press, and various Rick Gardner’s gig announcements, mytexasmusic.com, outbound music.com, other venue owners, blogs, and media outlets.  Posting gigs as soon as you book them will increase your chances of making the press deadlines of these various media outlets.  Must be a HAAM member to post…”
Go post your gigs now and take advantage of TC’s generous offer! Thanks so much, TC!
~~~~~~~~~~
Well, guys, that’s it for me and for this newsletter. Sheryl and Saylor will be updating you in the next one. As I’ve stated before, I’m going to miss writing the newsletter and it’s been a privilege to do so. Make sure to get your music sent in for consideration for the Compilation CD, put that meeting on your calendar, post your Gigs to the Gigpage, take time to thank Joanne, Tom, Mark, TC, Sheryl and Saylor for their thoughtfulness, check out the forum, getcher Bios in, sign on to be on “The HAAM Radio Show” and be happy. Great things are happening….

Hi guys! Hope you and yours are doing well. Three things to talk about today:
~~~~~~~~~~
1.)  Two Week Notice for Compilation CD!
2.)  HAAM Needs a New Volunteer Newsletter Writer
3.)  “The HAAM Radio Show” Lineup & News
~~~~~~~~~~
1.) Two Week Notice for Compilation CD!
Two week notice time for getting your songs submitted for the 2nd HAAM Compilation CD! The CD will be distributed as far and wide as we can send it and those who are on it will be official representatives of HAAM. Our first CD, “Songs from the Stack,” is truly amazing and is enjoying regular spins on the air and in live music venues. HAAM has gotten some great publicity from this first CD and we want to keep that magic flowing! So, we need you to send in your very BEST songs for consideration so that we can get your fantastic HAAMster songs into the public’s hands via the second CD.
Full information can be found on our website at www.haam.us and you can find the submission forms there, too. The deadline for submissions is April 15th so don’t put it off! Go read about it now and get your best songs in to us asap. Any questions? Contact Patti Sullivan at:
PattiSullivan’@'netscape.com (Remove the ‘ symbols on either side of the @ symbol before sending email to Patti.)
~~~~~~~~~~
2.)  HAAM Needs a New Volunteer Newsletter Writer
Chris Collins and I began HAAM in the Summer of 2003 and I’ve been writing the newsletters at least once per month from that time ‘til now. I’ve totally enjoyed the honor and I’m going to miss doing it, but I must soon step down as the “Written Voice of HAAM.”
If you are interested in becoming our newsletter writer, please contact me and I’ll send you the details:  April’@'AprilKelly.com (Pls. remove the ‘ symbols on either side of the @ symbol before sending email to me.)
~~~~~~~~~~
3.) “The HAAM Radio Show” Lineup & News
If you would like to volunteer to book the show for HAAM, please contact me at the above email address. I will let you know how to go about it and will be on call to help out when needed for the first few months.
Here’s the lineup for the next few weeks:

Our apologies if you are receiving this newsletter late or if it is a repeat email. We sent this out originally last Tuesday. However, the press site has been undergoing some changes and most folks did not get their email, so we’re trying again. Let’s get right to it….

~~~~~~~~~~
1.)  Compilation CD PO Box Address Correction!!
2.)  HAAM Forum – Interesting Stuff There!
3.)  Wanted – HAAM Newsletter Writer to Take My Place
4.)  Houston Press HAAMster Mention – Who’s the Mystery HAAMster??
5.)  The HAAM Radio Show Fund Drive Results
6.)  International Folk Alliance Review
~~~~~~~~~~

1.) Compilation CD PO Box Address Correction!!

If you have printed out the submission form so that you can submit your songs, please make sure that you have the correct PO Box address to send to. Unfortunately, there was an error on the original submission form that was posted to the site, but now the error has been corrected. (If you have already sent in your CD and you sent it to the incorrect address, please contact Patti Sullivan.)

Please make note of the correct address here and on the website:

HAAM

PO Box 130446

Houston, TX 77219

Send in your submissions soon – Deadline is April 15th. Find the rules and submission form on the website at http://www.haam.us/

Good luck!  =)

~~~~~~~~~~
2.)  HAAM Forum – Interesting Stuff There!
Ya’ll need to go visit the forum today.  There are several new items that’ve been posted this last week, including a couple which are time-sensitive.  Go there to see an opportunity to play at The Bugle Boy (Contact them about future Sunday shows), an invite to join a new band, overseas gigging opportunities and much, much more.  Because I cannot write a newsletter every single week, the forum is the best way for HAAMsters to share news in a timely manner and keep their musical family in the loop.  It’s all up to you guys to keep the forum going strong!  If you know of something that might interest or benefit a HAAMster, please post it!  (If you absolutely cannot post items to the forum, send it to me and I’ll get it done for you.)
Example:  When are the deadlines for the Kerrville Newfolk and Wildflower Festival contests this year?  If you know, please post it to the forum under “Contests.”
Please visit the forum at least once per week so that you don’t miss out on anything and be sure to keep your fellow HAAMsters in mind when you hear about something that might benefit the whole group.  All for one and one for all….
~~~~~~~~~~
3.) Wanted – HAAM Newsletter Writer to Take My Place

Chris Collins and I began HAAM in the Summer of 2003 and I’ve been writing the newsletters at least once per month from that time ‘til now. I’ve totally enjoyed the honor and I’m going to miss doing it, but I must soon step down as the “Written Voice of HAAM.” I’m putting my house on the market very soon and have hopes to sell it by Summer, whereupon I will move with my hubby to the NW Austin area (Lago Vista). Because I won’t be able to make all (or most) of the meetings, I don’t feel that I can adequately shell out the news for the group anymore. I will, however, continue to be a HAAMster and will consider myself a HAAMbassador within the Austin music community. And, I’ll still try to make as many meetings as I can – You won’t be rid of me that easily, you know…. =)

This means that we’ll soon need a new newsletter writer for HAAM. If you are interested, it’s a pretty high-profile position and comes with a LOT of responsibility. It can be time-consuming, too, so make sure you have the time to take it on before volunteering.

Here are some of the qualifications that this person must have:

The new writer will need to have an entertaining style of writing (at least conversational and engaging), will need to be heavily involved in HAAM and will need to be dedicated, available and/or flexible enough to write a HAAMspam at the drop of a hat, as was the case with the last newsletter. (I had only found out the night before writing it that last Monday was the last day of the KPFT fundraiser for HAAM. HAAM had to come before my clients so I could alert ya’ll about the show.) They must also be an accurate and competent writer who will use their intuition to figure out what should and should not go into a newsletter and when and how often newsletters should go out. (Too many and folks lose interest; Not enough and folks lose interest.) The writer should be able to engender enthusiasm for new projects and should have some marketing skills within their writing in order to do so. Above all, the writer must be objective, group minded and have no personal agenda to promote within HAAM. There is no pay for this position as HAAM is run completely via volunteerism. However, writing the newsletter has it’s rewards.

I will assist the new writer for the first few times and then will release them into the wild! If you are interested, please write to me asap at: mailto:April’@'AprilKelly.com (remove the ‘ symbols from either side of the @ symbol before sending to me) to let me know and make sure that you put “HAAM Newsletter!” into the subject line so that I don’t mistake your email for trash. Please include your full name, phone number and preferred email address. We’ll go from there!

~~~~~~~~~~
4.)  Houston Press HAAMster Mention – Who’s the Mystery HAAMster??
The article, linked below, was published in the Houston Press on February 14, 2008.  HAAM gets a mention toward the end, a passionate call for HAAMsters to unite to change things in Houston.  So, who’s the writer??  Show yourself so we can applaud you!!  =)
Go here for the article and/or cut and paste the address into your browser to view it:
http://www.houstonpress.com/2008-02-14/news/mad-vegans-and-pedantic-scientologists/
So, we’d like to find out who wrote it, for sure.  However, more importantly, does HAAM wish to pull together to try to get Houston leadership more aware of it’s own local music scene and the potential therein?  This is one of the original missions of HAAM that fell to the wayside because most folks were too busy to take it on back when HAAM was small.  Since then, we’ve accomplished some subtle changes, but nuttin’ fancy.
If you agree with the above, please take the time to write down an idea or two that might help HAAM reason with the folks who are in the position to alter the face of Houston’s musical history.  Feel like doing a sit-in?  Write it down!  Then, bring your passion and your ideas to the next meeting and let’s see if we can make something happen toward putting Houston on the map as an original music destination.
(I’ll let you know more about the meeting details as soon as I know more….)
~~~~~~~~~~

5.) The HAAM Radio Show Fund Drive Results

Well, HAAM fell short during the first week, hit par ($800) during the second week and surpassed expectations the third week with 167% of the goal! Yee-and-HA! Once again, we’ve pulled it out, guys! I listened in to the last show and want to thank the following HAAMsters for donating their time and/or pledges: Tom T. and Brian K. for DJing/Begging for $, Sugar Bayou, for offering up their CDs to callers when things were running slow, Pat B., Jane from Bellaire, Patty from Houston, Andrew (new member with deep pockets!), David (big pockets) and a large donation from an anonymous pledge. You guys rock!

Major thanks also go out to those of you who called in to pledge during the first two weeks. It’s thanks to you that we’re still on the air, talkin’ music and spinning CDs! Now we can relax for a few more months and just enjoy the ride….The HAAM Radio Show, Mondays from 3:30 to 5pm, KPFT, 90.1 FM, Houston, Tx. Listen in and tell the world to do the same!

~~~~~~~~~~
6.)  International Folk Alliance Review
Wow!  Sounds like HAAM had quite a presence at the International Folk Alliance Conference in Memphis, TN, this last February.  We had a GREAT group of representatives from HAAM and, guys, HAAM really IS becoming more and more well known on a national level.  It’s pretty darned cool to be rubbing elbows with great international arteests, isn’t it?  Thanks again to Brian and Jim for putting it all together.
This might be long, but it’s worth the read:  I asked two attendees to tell you all about it, a virgin and a veteran of the event, and here are their thoughts:
From Willie B:
“Perhaps you would like to hear how it felt going to the NFA for the very first time!  Imagine 4 entire floors of the Hotel, including all of the conference rooms, filled with great musicians all showcasing at the same time.  Where do you start?  Make a list and just see as many as you can!  If you see 15 % of the Conference then you saw a lot.  Now add in the exhibit hall and the big auditorium in the mix and an outside stage for seminars (under a tent.)  Walking down the halls was a poster platted sight to behold, every artist scrambling for wall space.  The music and or talent level was very high.  I heard great song after great song. Late at night though, just like Kerrville, all the ADHD insomniacs like me gathered and the magic happened over and over. We played songs till the sun came up and cherished every note.  Special people filled the Marriot Hotel last week in Memphis.
The HAAM Showcase Room had several magic moments:  Brian Ashley Jones and his wife were great!  Caroline Herring was great on Thursday before she lost her voice along with Amelia K Spicer. (Voices were dropping like flies.)  Hans York sat in with me and danced for 20 straight minutes. (He’s got more energy than a nuclear bomb!)  All the HAAMsters showcased here as well as other places and we all made an effort to support each other as much as possible.  In fact, one night we all went out together for some Memphis Bar-b-que.  Naturally, that had to coordinated by a non-musician:  Pam , Brian’s wife got us all in the lobby at the same time (a miracle) and then onto the trolley and back, wow!!! Thanks Pam!!!!
I meet so many caring souls who happen to be songwriters and musicians that it was hard to say goodbye!  However their music will stay with me forever!”
~~~~~

From Jim Kam:

“We had a relatively small HAAM contingent in Memphis this year – Brian and Pam Kalinec, Willie B, Tom Tranchilla, Marina, Glynace, Matt Harlan, Azalea Cervantes, Cheryl Duckett and myself.

As usual we hosted the HAAM showcase room, which worked out very successfully. In addition to giving performing HAAM members 2 showcase slots, we were able to get loads of talent to play the room. Some of these performers, we already knew such as Mick Overman, Jeff Talmege, Jeff Talmadge, Jaime Michaels, Brian Ashley Jones. Terry Allan Smith, Betty Soo, Effron White, Edge City, Mary Cutrufello, etc.

Others, we had not met before, This gave us the opportunity to make new acquaintances and we were very pleased to host such awesome talent as Audrey Auld-Mezera, the Dixie Bee-Liners, Faces of Eve, Sally Spring, Cleve & Sweet Mary, David Stoddard, Caroline Herring, and Uncle Monk (Tommy Ramone of “The Ramones”). These are all not-to-be-missed acts when they come to our area.

The great thing about hosting a showcase room consistently at these conferences is that we meet a lot of people, giving HAAM a lot of visibility and credibility. It definitely raises our profile among the attendees and hopefully will pay dividends to the membership in terms of getting opportunities via HAAM’s “brand-name” recognition.

All in all, we encountered some incredible talent and made lots of new friends. In particular a number of the HAAM guys bonded with a contingent from Minnesota which included David Stoddard, Charlie Roth, Brian Mackey, James Moors, Hans York (who is from Germany, but also hung around with those guys).

Some of the highlights include seeing a guitar jam with the likes of Bill Kirchen ( of Commander Cody) who must surely be a deity among guitar gods, John Inmon (Jerry Jeff Walker’s guitarist) and others whose names I unfortunately do not know. 45 minutes of pure jaw-dropping guitar playing.

This year’s keynote was delivered by Eliza Glykyson and former Attorney General Janet Reno. Unfortunately Ms. Reno suffers from Parkinson’s disease, so her address with very short.

As with previous FA conferences, trying to take it all in is like drinking from a fire hose. Still I think we all enjoyed ourselves tremendously, made some good contacts, made friends, scored a bunch of CDs and wore our behinds off. On the down side, this my second year to visit Memphis and again, I did not make a pilgrimage to Graceland. Maybe next year.

One thing’s for sure, I chose the wrong weekend to give up smoking crack ”

~~~~~
Jim’s joking there at the end, but it sounds like everyone had an incredible time this year.  I hope this has given you a better feel for what you could expect if you went next year or even if you attend the SW region’s version of the IFA, SWRFA.  (SWRFA is “IFA Lite,” but is still an awesome ride and an amazing time.)  Think about making the trip next year, if you can, and we’ll try to announce it well in advance this time….
~~~~~~~~~~

Yowza! Sorry about the length of this newsletter, but there was a lot to review and so much to say. Go check out that forum now, guys! Until next time, be happy and keep that sweet music flowing….

Your sister in song,

Hi HAAMsters! We have some time-sensitive material to talk about today so, without further ado, here’s the HAAM news….
~~~~~~~~~~
1.  HAAM Radio Show KPFT Fund Drive TODAY!!!
2.  HAAM Compilation CD – Send in Your Songs Now!
3.  HAAM Radio Show Booking – Wanna Play on the Radio??
~~~~~~~~~~
1. HAAM Radio Show KPFT Fund Drive TODAY!!!
Just found out that TODAY, Monday, March 3rd, is the last day of the fund drive for our 90.1 FM, KPFT show, The HAAM Radio Show. Tom Tranchilla will be interviewing Sugar Bayou and will be running the show and fund drive today. Our show airs every Monday from 3:30 to 5pm and is absolutely the BEST way for HAAMsters to get their songs played on the air and/or have themselves promoted and interviewed by our amazing DJs, so we need to keep our time slot and stay on the air, folks! Put bluntly, we need you to call in and pledge your support for your show today. (The HAAM Radio Show has fallen short of it’s goal within the last two fund drives and the economy is so stinky right now that it looks as though KPFT is going to fall very short of it’s goals this time, in general.) Times are a little tough but, if you can, set your desk timer for 3:30 to 5pm and please call 713.JAM.KPFT (713.526.5738) to pledge what you can toward our show. It doesn’t have to be much! Make sure that you say that you’re pledging for the HAAM Radio Show when you call in so that HAAM gets credit for your pledge and thanks in advance for your support of the show!
I’m going to try to listen in today to catch a few names of our supporters so that I can brag about you in the next newsletter, so make sure to at least give your first name to be read on the air, k? =)
~~~~~~~~~~
2.  HAAM Compilation CD – Send Your Songs in Now!
Time to submit your songs to be on the next HAAM Compilation CD, guys!  The CD will be distributed as far and wide as we can send it and those who are on it will be official representatives of HAAM.  The last CD, “Songs from the Stack,” is truly amazing and is enjoying regular spins on the air and in venues when there’s no live music.  HAAM has gotten some great publicity from this first CD and we want to keep that magic flowing!  So, we need you to send in your very BEST songs for consideration so that we can get your fantastic HAAMster songs into the public’s hands via the second CD.
Full information can be found on our website at www.haam.us and you can find the submission forms there, too.  The deadline for submissions is April 15th, but don’t put it off!  Go read about it now and get your best songs in to us asap!  We’ll be looking forward to it and hope that you’ll soon be one of our musical HAAMbassadors….  =)
~~~~~~~~~~
3. HAAM Radio Show Booking – Wanna Play on the Radio?
Calling all HAAMsters!! We are asking that you contact Joanne Sprott if you: 1. Have your information on the HAAM Bio Page, 2. Have NOT played the HAAM Radio Show within the last year, and 3. Wish to play the show. Write to her at: booking’@'wordtouch.com . (Pls. remove the ‘ marks from either side of the @ symbol before you send to her.)
Some folks are not getting the notices from Joanne and others are not responding when they get her invitation to play, so we are sending out this one time blanket email within this newsletter so that you can contact her to express your interest and get back into regular rotation on the show. Take an afternoon off from your day job to impress your fans, friends and relatives by being interviewed live on the air with access to millions of potential fans! Special consideration can be also be given when booking for your special events such as CD Release parties and benefit concerts, so tell Joanne in advance when you have something special going on so that she can get you on the show to promote it beforehand.
Our show is being aired in one of the largest cities in our country, guys – It’s a truly amazing opportunity and should NOT be taken for granted, so get on board and get back on the air. Write to Joanne now.
FYI: Names and contact information for booking the show are typically drawn from the Bio Pages. If you do not have your Bio posted to the HAAMsite and wish to do so, or if you need to update your bio, please send it on to Pete Lippincott at: pete’@'petesimple.com . (Remove the ‘ symbols on either side of the @ symbol before you send your email.)
Important: In order to have your bio posted, you MUST have something to promote (ie: Gigs or a CD) and must have played within the Houston area within the past few years. Make sure that you read some of the other bios to get a good feel for what’s expected. Make it short and sweet and be sure to include your contact information somewhere within your verbiage.
Here’s the lineup for the show for the next little bit:
March  3, Sugar Bayou
March 10, Petesimple
March 17, Mo Pair
March 24, Celeste Terrell
March 31, April Kelly

The Houston Association of Acoustic Musicians is proud to present:

THE HAAM 2008 COMPILATION CD PROJECT

In an effort to represent the great talent within the Houston area songwriting community and to maintain an archive of recognized HAAM songwriters and their songs, HAAM is inviting all members who live in the Houston area or who regularly perform here to submit their original song(s) to the HAAM CD Selection Committee by April 15, 2008 for consideration. To enable greater representation, songwriters included on the previous CD, “Songs From the Stack,” will not be eligible for this project. Judges may not submit, either.

Selected songs will be included on the HAAM 2008 Compilation CD due for release in October 2008. The songwriters will be invited to perform their winning tunes for the CD Release Party and receive two free CD’s. As HAAM is a self-promoting, mutually supportive association, finalists will be expected to help promote the CD after its release by joining the HAAM CD Promotion and Distribution Team. All HAAM members are invited to help out. Email: pattisullivan@netscape.com.

Submitted songs will be reviewed by a panel of judges. After first eliminating entries not deemed radio ready or appropriate in length, songs will be individually rated by a number of factors including: memorable melody, engaging lyrics (if any) and good production/arrangement effort. The songs rated highest by the panel will be included on the 2008 CD, with the exception that only one song per writer can appear on the CD. The actual number of songs to be included will depend on the combined length of all songs (limited by CD capacity). “Songs from the Stack” contained 18 songs.Each participant may submit a maximum of two (2) songs. The submission fee for one (1) song is $15 and for two (2) songs is $25. The fee is non-refundable. If entering two songs, each song must be on a separate CD. One check or money order may be written for both entries and made payable to: Patti Sullivan. Profits from the CD will benefit KPFT HAAM Radio Show.
